A LIFE AMONG INSTRUMENTS

The beginnings of a musical tradition

Adrian Antoine was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1977, into a family where music was much more than a profession.

In 1950, his grandfather founded Academia Antoine, a music school whose tradition was carried forward by his parents and other members of the family. Adrian grew up surrounded by instruments, rehearsals, lessons and stages.

His parents were musicians and took him along to their performances when he was still a baby. One unusual image remains part of the family’s memories: little Adrian sleeping inside an open Gibson guitar case while his parents played.

Music became a natural part of his life long before he could understand everything it would mean for his future.

By the age of twelve, he was already teaching music and beginning to share the knowledge he had acquired since childhood.

Over time, he developed his abilities as a pianist, drummer, guitarist, bassist and singer. That grounding in several instruments would later become essential to his work as a composer, arranger and producer.

THE FIRST STAGES

From television to Uruguay’s carnival

His connection with audiences began at an exceptionally early age.

He was already appearing on television at the age of two. From five to twelve, he performed alongside his father and uncles in the band on the Uruguayan children’s television program Cacho Bochinche, hosted by Cacho de la Cruz. He sang, played drums and took part in tours around the country.

He also performed in Uruguay’s carnival, playing drums with the parodist ensemble Los Walkers and later taking part in Los Nazarenos and the candombe troupe Generación Lubola.

During his teenage years, he combined teaching music with professional performances while becoming increasingly interested in composition and production.

Together with Robert Pintos, he developed a recording studio in Montevideo, where he worked on advertising music and television productions. These included projects associated with Canal 10, such as Bien de Bien, Sote, Aventujuegos and the children’s band Los Aventureros. During that same period, they also made recordings with El Cuarteto de Nos, the well-known Uruguayan rock band.

In 1992, he participated as a musician in Antoine en Concierto, a production awarded a Gold Record in Uruguay.

Those years established an artistic foundation that brought together performing, teaching, composition, recording and music production.

STARTING AGAIN

From Montevideo to the United States

On April 22, 2000, Adrian arrived in the United States, initially planning to stay for a few months.

He settled in New Jersey and began working in the Latin music circuit in New York and the surrounding area.

His experience as a multi-instrumentalist and producer enabled him to work with artists from different countries, styles and musical traditions.

During this period, he broadened his knowledge of Latin music, developed new professional relationships and continued learning through contact with musicians from different cultures and styles.

Among those experiences was a visit to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he had the opportunity to attend several classes as a guest, explore the facilities and experience the academic and creative atmosphere of this renowned music institution.

His wife, Alexandra Cobo, joined him in the United States, and their daughter Jenny was born in New Jersey in November 2001. Her birth marked a new chapter in family life as Adrian continued developing his musical career.

During his early years in the country, he built his own recording studio and developed original productions and compositions.

In 2007, he moved with his family to South Florida, beginning a new professional chapter that continues today.

Miami became his main base as a musician, producer and entrepreneur.

CREATING, PRODUCING AND SHARING

A career spanning studios, stages and major productions

Throughout his career, Adrian Antoine has worked as a composer, arranger, sound engineer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and musical director.

His discography as an artist includes Instrumental I (2007), Instrumental II (2009), Lejos (2012), Light Sound (2015) and Dance (2020), alongside other instrumental projects and later productions.

In 2012, he earned another Gold Record in Uruguay with Quién es Quién by Grupo La Peregrina, a project in which he participated as producer, director and musician.

His artistic work also includes international projects devoted to training and producing emerging talent.

In 2016, while living in Florida, he frequently traveled to New York to record and produce outstanding young Broadway artists, including performers associated with musicals such as Matilda, The Lion King and School of Rock.

With Eduardo Jiménez Pons and Coty Manríquez, he created Kids of Broadway, a music camp that later evolved into The Broadway Star Project, which is now developed under his collaborators’ direction.

His productions include Una Vida Nueva, a song he composed and produced, on which he also sang alongside artist David Aleksander and Shahadi Wright Joseph.

Shahadi, who had performed on Broadway, would gain international recognition as the voice of young Nala in Disney’s 2019 film The Lion King, sharing the character with Beyoncé, who voiced adult Nala.

The music video for Una Vida Nueva was filmed in Central Park, New York, as a large-scale audiovisual production with hundreds of people present.

Music also continues to connect generations within the Antoine family. His daughter Jenny pursues her own musical work; Adrian produces her projects, and they share the stage in a variety of performances, carrying forward a family tradition that began decades earlier in Uruguay.

MUSIC, CULTURE AND RECOGNITION

Projects that reached beyond the stage

Alongside his recording work, Adrian has developed cultural and audiovisual initiatives that bring together music, education and different artistic disciplines.

With Gabriel Eloy Carrizo, he created Bus by Bus, a sociocultural project developed in Uruguay between 2015 and 2018 with ministerial and consular support, dedicated to discovering and promoting street musicians’ talent.

The initiative included a music competition, professional recordings and opportunities for participants’ artistic development. The winning duo, La Fortaleza, traveled to Miami to continue their musical experience.

The project also led to Bus by Bus El Documental, directed and produced by Adrian Antoine in collaboration with Gabriel Eloy Carrizo.

In 2020, following the death of Diego Armando Maradona, Adrian took on the production and artistic and musical direction of a multidisciplinary project inspired by a composition by Gabriel Eloy Carrizo.

The initiative brought together more than 150 artists and encompassed a song in ten musical versions, ten music videos, ten visual artworks, an album and a book.

The experience was documented in the Uruguayan feature film Ad10s: El documental (2023), which received the Premio Lobo Marino del Público for Best Film in the Ibero-American Documentary Feature Competition at the 25th Punta del Este International Film Festival.

Since 2012, Adrian has been a voting member of the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy, the institutions associated with the GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY awards.

These projects and recognitions reflect a career that has combined musical creation with artistic direction, audiovisual production and cultural promotion.

LEGENDS AND NEW DIRECTIONS

Celebrating the music and stories that endure

After decades of performing and producing different musical styles, Adrian shaped LEGENDS, an artistic project dedicated to celebrating the songs, stories and legacies of major figures in music.

Through piano performances, instrumental arrangements and audiovisual productions, LEGENDS offers new ways to connect with the music of artists such as Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson and many others.

In selected productions, Adrian combines his piano with original recordings of isolated vocals, creating a musical dialogue between his performances and the artists’ historic voices, without artificially recreating them.

LEGENDS has expanded into concerts, digital content and publications.

In 2026, he published LEGENDS — Historias reales sobre música, vida y legado, a book bringing together 46 chapters about important figures in international music.

The project also includes LEGENDS — Special Editions, an editorial collection that explores individual artists’ lives and work in greater depth.

Alongside this work, Adrian develops new concert experiences, including Floating LEGENDS — A Floating Live Piano Concert, an immersive format in which audiences enjoy piano performances while floating in a pool with individual headphones.

With his wife Alexandra, he also takes part in music and wellness experiences at Casa Harmony in Plantation, Florida, combining live piano and sound baths.

These initiatives reflect his interest in exploring new ways to experience and share music.

07

SHARING WHAT HE HAS LEARNED

Music as a path to personal growth

Teaching has been part of Adrian Antoine’s life since his earliest professional years.

After beginning to teach at twelve within Academia Antoine, he continued developing his work as an educator and mentor throughout his career.

Today, he brings that experience together in Adrian Antoine Music Academy, an educational initiative for people who want to learn music and those seeking to develop their artistic identity and possibilities.

The academy combines instrumental courses, musical training, composition, production, technological tools and personalized guidance.

Its philosophy begins with a conviction: learning music should not be limited to mastering a technique or pursuing a professional career.

It can also be a way to discover abilities, build confidence, express emotions and enrich everyday life.

After more than four decades of musical activity, Adrian continues performing, composing, producing, teaching and creating new projects.

His career encompasses stages, recording studios, cultural initiatives, entrepreneurial ventures, publications and educational experiences.

Yet behind that diversity remains one idea: music has value not only for what it allows us to create, but also for what it can transform in people.

A life dedicated to making music. And to sharing everything music has to offer.
